Deon Truter Builders was founded in 2000 by Deon Truter, a born-and-raised local of Plettenberg Bay, better known to its residents as Plett. Deon’s journey into the building industry started long before the company’s formation. After matriculating from Wittedrift High School, he served in the South African Navy, where he learned discipline, resilience, and a deep respect for precision—qualities that would later define his work as a builder.

Returning to Plett in 1989, Deon began working alongside his father at John Truter Builders, immersing himself in every aspect of the construction trade. With a young family to support and a growing passion for quality craftsmanship, he took a leap of

faith in 2000 and founded Deon Truter Builders—a company rooted in family values, attention to detail, and a commitment to excellence.

From humble beginnings, the business has grown into one of Plett’s most trusted residential construction companies. In 2003, Deon was joined by Stef Meyer, who remains the company’s steadfast foreman. Together, they lead a loyal team of 27 permanent staff members, many of whom have been with the company since day one. Today, even the next generation has joined the ranks, with several children of long-time employees now proudly continuing the legacy.

At Deon Truter Builders, we believe that quality takes time, which is why we only take on a maximum of two new homes per year, each carefully scheduled to ensure that no detail is rushed and every client receives the attention their home deserves. Whether it’s a new build or a bespoke renovation, our team works closely with local and national architects, suppliers, electricians, and plumbers, ensuring a seamless process from foundation to finish.

Our success lies not only in the homes we build but in the relationships we form. Many of our clients become long-term friends, and most of our work comes through word of mouth—a reflection of the pride and care we put into every project.

Beyond the building site, Deon is a dedicated community member and longstanding volunteer with the National Sea Rescue Institute’s (NSRI), Station 14, where he has served for over 35 years—including time as station commander. His commitment to service, both professionally and personally, reflects the values that guide our business every day.
